MEMBERS of Johnstone Community Council have cancelled their latest monthly meeting amid fears over the spread of coronavirus.
The meeting had been scheduled to take place at Johnstone Town Hall tonight.
However, a message posted on the community council’s website today states: “Tonight’s meeting of Johnstone Community Council has been cancelled due to the ongoing situation regarding COVID-19.
"We will keep you updated about future meetings.”
The decision to scrap the meeting comes after Nicola Sturgeon told MSPs at First Minister’s Questions today that it would be “inappropriate" for the country to "continue as normal.”
Ms Sturgeon is to recommend the cancellation of gatherings of more than 500 people across the country, in a bid to protect frontline services, starting from Monday.
While the attendance at tonight's community council meeting would have been significantly smaller than 500, the cancellation is further evidence of the precautionary measures being taken in Renfrewshire and elsewhere to combat the coronavirus threat.
