A SPURNED lover torched her ex-girlfriend’s home in a drink and drug-fuelled rage after finding out she was in a relationship with a man.

Heartbroken mum-of-two Lisa Gilmour was so angry that former partner Kara Watt was in a relationship with Peter Hughes that she phoned police to tell them she was going to kill her.

Gilmour, of Ness Avenue, Johnstone, then went to Ms Watt’s home and set it alight.

She has now admitted a charge of wilfully setting a fire that placed the lives of Ms Watt and Mr Hughes in danger.

Procurator fiscal depute Keri Marshall told Paisley Sheriff Court the blaze took place at Ms Watt’s flat in Morar Drive, Linwood, on September 16 this year.

It was stated that 33-year-old Gilmour had been in a relationship with Ms Watt, who was now living with Mr Hughes in a top-floor flat.

Ms Marshall said: “At 5.06am, the witnesses Watt and Hughes were awoken by the smoke alarm in their home.

“The witness Hughes went to the front door and opened it and at this time he was met with flames, in what he describes as ‘a wall of fire.’

“He threw water onto the fire, which seemed to extinguish it. He noted a shoe stand was alight and observed it had been moved from outside the neighbours’ property and butted against the front door of their property.

“Fortunately, the fire was extinguished before the front door was fully on fire.”

When firefighters arrived at the scene, they noticed that boots had been set alight.

Around the same time, police received calls that Gilmour was clad in a pink tracksuit and walking along a dual carriageway from Linwood to Johnstone.

Officers investigated and it emerged Gilmour had phoned them to warn them of her plot to kill Ms Watt.

Ms Marshall said: “A female who identified herself as Lisa Gilmour contacted police, stating she was heading to her ex-partner’s house to kill her and then she was going to kill herself.”

Officers traced Gilmour at her home and seized her pink tracksuit, which she was still wearing, with tests later revealing it had particles from the melted boots on it.

Defence solicitor Charlie McCusker said Gilmour was an emotional wreck at the time, due to the break-up of her relationship with Ms Watt.

He added: “She was intoxicated, she had taken Valium and vodka.

“They were in an on-off relationship for three years. Six weeks before this, Kara Watt met Mr Hughes.

“Matters came to a head when it emerged he was living with Kara Watt. He had moved into her house.

“This was information she got the day before. On receiving this information, she was distraught. She wanted her relationship with Kara Watt to continue.

“She now fully accepts her relationship with Kara Watt is at an end.”

Sheriff Frances McCartney called for background reports to be prepared ahead of sentencing and remanded Gilmour in custody.

He warned her that she could be jailed for the offence when she returns to court to learn her fate in the new year.
