A CAMPAIGNING councillor has declared victory in her battle to bring bus stops back to a busy road in Erskine.
Earlier this year, passengers using services 22 and X23 operated by McGill’s were told they would no longer be able to get on or off in Bargarran Road.
This meant the nearest alternative stops were in Barhill Road or the Sempill Avenue terminus.

However, following months of campaigning by Councillor Michelle Campbell, who represents Erskine and Inchinnan, four stops are to be reinstated at the junctions with Douglas Crescent and Allison Avenue.
Cllr Campbell told The Gazette: “These bus stops will improve road safety and enhance the lives of those who have mobility issues and use public transport as their means of travel.
“The two existing stops are at opposite ends of Bargarran and it is unacceptable to expect those who experience mobility issues to use these stops.
“We should be promoting independent living as much as we can, as well as equality for all in our local communities.
The stops will be placed at Douglas Crescent (yellow) and Allison Avenue (red).
“Young people have made it clear nationally that public transport is a priority for access to education, employment and their socialisation.
“I am extremely pleased the determination in my representation of my local constituents has been heard and four new bus stops have been agreed.”
Following discussions with Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT), which is responsible for delivering public transport in Renfrewshire, the bus stops will be reinstated as soon as Renfrewshire Council has completed work on footpaths at the location.
This work is scheduled to start today, with the stops in place by mid-December.
A council spokesperson said: “We are working with SPT to support new bus stops being installed.

“Preparatory works include a new footway leading into the two side streets, as well as adjustment to the kerbs to improve access getting on and off the buses.”
A spokesperson for SPT added: “Once those works are complete, we will install the bus stop poles.”
