VETERANS at the Erskine Home are now able to enjoy a revamped recreation garden, thanks to a funding boost.

Scotmid Co-operative has provided the cash to bring the garden to life, coinciding with commemorations to mark 100 years since the signing of the Armistice in 1918.

Residents at the Bishopton base will be able to enjoy new furniture, accessible flower beds for them to tend to and replanted borders.

The renovation of the garden is the second project Scotmid has funded, with three specially-adapted VW Caddy vehicles also donated to Erskine earlier this year.

Scotmid president Harry Cairney said: “Scotmid is delighted to have been able to provide the funding to bring this incredibly worthwhile project to life.

“Erskine is a magnificent charity and we’re pleased to be able to continue to support them on key projects.

“This event also provides us with a timely reminder of all those who made the ultimate sacrifice a century ago. Our society lost 144 employees during the four-year conflict and we will remember them.”

Erskine chief executive Ian Cumming MBE added: “We are grateful to Scotmid for their generous grant.

“By improving accessibility and providing raised flower beds and new seating with paved areas, this has greatly improved the garden, also making it available for use by any resident who enjoyed gardening before they moved in with us.”
