The masked thug attempted to disguise himself as the comic book favourite as he threatened the 61-year-old shopkeeper with a knife, demanding money.
But instead of handing over cash, the Johnstone pensioner grabbed a hockey stick and bravely fought back against him.
Police are now appealing for information on the attempted robbery at Graham Street Newsagents on Sunday, November 15 around 10.25am.
The would-be-thief is described as 5ft 4, and wearing dark clothing.
Detective Constable Eric Hepburn said: “Thankfully the shopkeeper wasn’t hurt but it was nonetheless a very distressing experience for him.
“Incidents such as this are rare in the area and there will be extra officers on patrol to provide reassurance to the local community.
“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident and saw anything suspicious to contact police on 101.
“Alternatively you can call CRIMESTOPPERS on 0800 555 111 where all callers will remain anonymous.”
