Stunning psychology student Kavneet Gill made the top seven out of hundreds of applicants for Miss Earth Scotland 2014.
And, despite not coming out with the coveted crown, the 19-year-old says she is “delighted” she managed to get so far.
Kavneet, a former Park Mains High pupil, took part in the competition at Glasgow’s 29 Club on Saturday, August 29.
It was her first ever big beauty pageant after she won the prestigious title of Miss Earth Renfrewshire 2014 in July.
Charity worker Kavneet, who grew up in Inchinnan and now lives in Paisley, said: “I’m just happy to have got so far.
“When I found out I was in the top seven it was absolutely outstanding — I never expected to get there as it was my first pageant.
“I’ve been doing some acting work while at college so thought I’d apply to Miss Earth as it looked like a great opportunity.
“When I was younger I was quite shy so this definitely has boosted my confidence quite a bit.
“The whole experience was just amazing, I wanted to do this pageant which isn’t just about beauty but also good causes.” The achievement comes as another boost for the pretty Paisley girl, as she was recently given the Scottish Government Saltire award for volunteering with Cancer Research.
She also does her best to champion environmental causes by recycling and promoting various global issues.
“I was absolutely overwhelmed to have won Miss Earth Renfrewshire,” Kavneet said. “Although I was a bit disappointed not to have one the Scotland pageant, I’m glad to have been part of such a fantastic event and will continue to do my bit for the environment.” Miss Earth is the fourth biggest beauty pageant in the world and the only one used to promote environmental awareness.
Along with its rivals Miss Universe, Miss World and Miss International contests, is also one of the most publicised beauty contests in the world.
The reigning titleholders dedicate their year to promote specific projects and often address issues concerning the environment and other global issues through school tours, tree planting activities, street campaigns, coastal clean ups, speaking engagements, shopping mall tours, media guesting, environmental fair, storytelling programs, eco-fashion shows, and other environmental activities.
Kavneet continued: “Right now I’m going to concentrate on my studies but who knows what could be next.
“Miss Scotland could definitely be a possibility, I’ll see what happens in future.”
