Emmerdale star Danny Miller may play one half of the soap’s favourite couple, but said that if it was up to him, he would break them up.
Fans of the Dales-set drama are head over heels for Aaron Dingle and Robert Sugden’s pairing, dubbing them Robron, but Miller admitted that if he was friends with his character, Aaron, he would advise him to get out of the relationship.
The couple have had a troubled time that has included Aaron battling self-harm and drug issues, going to prison, and Robert (Ryan Hawley) fathering a child with his ex Rebecca White (Emily Head).
Aaron now looks to be turning to self-harm again and is even reconsidering taking drugs as he tries to cope with Rebecca’s pregnancy and the idea of Robert becoming a dad without him.
The actor said: “As much as Robert and Aaron are good for each other, they’re also really bad for each other in some senses.
“If it wasn’t Rebecca, if it was a one-night stand, it’d be so much easier – whether it was a lad or a girl, it’s not the sexuality that matters, it’s the fact that it’s Rebecca and it’s her he chose to confide in and have sex with and there’s always going to be that reminder.
“For me, as Danny telling Aaron, I’d say time’s time, and I’m sure the fans won’t want to hear that, but it’s me watching it as a viewer as well, saying he needs to walk away from it.”
Miller even hinted that a break-up could be about to play out on screen.
He said: “There’s so much to talk about and overcome.
“This week in particular, is it all going to come out in the wash or is it the end of Robron?
“It’s a difficult, difficult week for them.”
Forthcoming episodes see Robert taking Rebecca to antenatal appointments, but Miller said that his character would not be playing the part of second dad to the child.
He said: “I think Aaron would be a great dad – he knows that kids can struggle and he’d be good at guiding them in the right direction.
“But no, I don’t think for Rebecca and Robert’s baby.
“I think it would have been nice if we had adopted or gone for surrogacy, but I can never see Aaron taking a part in that kid’s life, unfortunately.
“There are a lot of stronger people than Aaron who probably could, but Aaron’s too weak-minded to overcome that without causing some stress to him.”
:: Emmerdale’s episodes exploring the couple’s problems air on ITV from July 10.
