A group of young footballers hiked more than 25km across Glasgow visiting iconic football grounds to raise money for a charity with ties to the team.

Thirteen Gleniffer Thistle Football Club players embarked on a walk that took them from Hampden Park to St Mirren Park via Celtic Park and Ibrox.

The team, who play for the club’s 2012’s Tangerines, raised £1,475 which was split between Epilepsy Scotland and ACCORD Hospice in Paisley.

Their inspiration to choose the epilepsy charity came from teammate Josh who has the condition.

In between stadiums, the team kept morale high by spending time dancing and collectively singing with a local busker.

The hike across a sunny Glasgow took the boys more than six hours, with many fighting off blisters by the end.

Despite this, and an offer to end the walk early by parents, all the boys insisted on pushing through to finish at St Mirren Stadium.

After the walk, four boys visited Epilepsy Scotland offices in Govan to meet some of the team and present the charity with the money they managed to raise.

Jane Roberts, Epilepsy Scotland Fundraising Manager, said: “What an amazing feat by these remarkable boys. To walk straight across Glasgow and then to Paisley is no small endeavour, and to do it all in one day is simply incredible.

“We are so thankful that they chose us as the charity to fundraise for and we are humbled by the large amount they managed to raise for us. They should be very proud of themselves.”
