Job seekers are being urged to attend a Renfrewshire Council-run recruitment event at Paisley Town Hall.

The fair will be on between 9.30am and 12.30pm on Thursday, April 18, at the landmark facility in Abbey Close.

Up to 40 employers will be at the event, where people can find out about roles in warehouse and production, construction, facilities management, administration, customer service and more.

Those in attendance will also be able to access help with their CVs and support with how to prepare for interviews, the local authority has said.

A statement explained: “Anyone looking for employment is encouraged to come along to a jobs fair held in Paisley Town Hall on Thursday, April 18, between 9.30am and 12.30pm.

“Companies in the construction, warehouse, maintenance, cleaning, administration and customer services fields will be there.

“There will also be help and support with CVs and preparing for interview from the Invest in Renfrewshire team.”

Employment is considered a key area for the council and a report to the economy and regeneration policy board outlined some of the trends and statistics surrounding the subject earlier this year.

The overall employment rate for Renfrewshire fell marginally in 2022/23 with a subsequent slight increase in unemployment and claimant count rates, the update paper said. At the same time there was a moderate increase in economic inactivity rates.

Female employment dropped by 700 between July 2022 and 2023, which is comparable to a decrease in male employment of 600. However, both male and female employment rates are higher than the national averages.

A large number of people continue to be employed in retail (13,000), business administration (11,000) and manufacturing (8,000).

Meanwhile, the council has encouraged anyone looking to build skills and confidence for work to speak to its Invest in Renfrewshire team.

It added: “They can help you access training, support and find employment opportunities that will help you earn more money.

“There’s no pressure: the team will work at your pace and you can change your mind at any point.”
