Renfrewshire’s Provost has raised a whopping £15,448.05 for a local charity.

Provost Lorraine Cameron pledged to support four charities, one of which is Clothed in Love, during her term.

Based at Mossvale Community Church, the four-year-old volunteer-led initiative aids families by providing clothes and other items for children up to seven years old.

Provost Cameron said: “It was very important to me that I use my term as Provost to support local charities and community initiatives wherever possible and I’m proud to not only have been able to raise so much money for Clothed in Love, but also help spread awareness of the fantastic work they are doing to help people in need in our communities.

“One of the main things we did this year to raise money was our Charity Chomp Challenge where I was joined by some of my fellow councillors for an eating challenge – I’m A Celebrity style!

"It’s an event we won’t forget in a hurry. Thank you to everyone who took part or donated to our fundraising efforts. Every penny makes a difference.”

She also shared their clothing or item appeals on social media to increase awareness.

Alison Hastings, founder of Clothed in Love, said: "We are grateful to Provost Lorraine Cameron for her support and dedication to our cause.

“Over the past year, she has helped us raise much-needed funds and awareness, which have supported our mission to help vulnerable families across Renfrewshire.

"Provost Cameron's contributions have made a significant and tangible difference in the lives of those we serve - from the provision of additional storage space, enabling us to store extra clothing and baby equipment to expanding our Facebook presence."

She said the funds collected will help retain the charity's storage unit for at least another three years, allowing them to sustain their efforts in assisting needy families.
